Skiing & Snowboarding

If you are like me, just the thought of deep snow and blue skies will get your pulse racing.

Finding the best snow, riding the best lines and discovering yet another untracked powder field is what makes skiing with a guide a special experience. Increasing your safety margin, learning about the mountain environment and having fun are thrown in, of course.

Sking powder isn’t just for people who were born on skis.  Wide, shaped skis have transformed off-piste skiing so that even if you haven’t been skiing for ever you can still get into the powder fairly early on. Mixing an on-piste holiday with an introduction to off-piste is a great way to spice things up.

With confirmed off-pisters we can go to places you might not have heard about or do runs that you think might be too close to your limit with out some back up. These might be steeps where a rope might come in handy or glacial terrain.

We can get to the snow off the lifts, or by climbing on skis or a combination of both. If you haven’t tried ski touring don’t dismiss it out of hand. It isn’t much harder work than summer hiking and the rewards usually outweigh the effort.

Becoming a better skier is as much about under standing the snow and the mountains as it is about pressure and edging skis. I have been teaching in the mountains since 1989, including many years at the national mountain centre, Plas y Brenin. I am the avalanche training for the Ski Club of Great Britain and I am head guide for the UK Diploma in Mountain medicine as well as lead ski trainer to the British Mountain Guides.

I regularly guide all over the Alps and further afield including annual trips to northern Norway.Take a look below for some inspiration.
