Ice Climbing

I have been skiing, climbing and  mountaineering for around twenty years and have visited North America, Europe, Asia, Australasia and Africa in my pursuit of adventure. I have climbed  E6 on the rock, grade VII in winter and climbed to 7000m in the Himalaya. I ski nearly every week of the winter season. In other words I love it all! I bring this enthusiasm for all things mountainous to my work as an internationally qualified mountain guide (IFMGA), and as a mountaineering instructor (MIC). Since 1989, I have been introducing novices to the mountains and helping experts to improve.

I spent many years as a senior instructor at Plas y Brenin (the National Mountain Centre) where much of my work was training and assessing future instructors. I am also in charge of avalanche training to the Ski Club of Great Britain and I head the mountaineering training for the UK's UIAA Diploma in Mountain Medicine.

Home is North Wales and Chamonix, France. I offer a personal service which can be tailored to the individual and  courses were I work alongside hand picked colleagues who all hold the international mountain guide's carnet.

What is an IFMGA Guide?

The International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations set the standard for the training and assessment of mountain guides worldwide. Each member country has it's own association. I am a member of the British Mountain Guides (BMG). This qualification allows the holder to operate on rock, snow, ice and glaciers any where in the world. It is the highest possible qualification available for operating in a mountain environment.

What is AMI?

The Mountaineering Instructors Certificate is the highest qualification for the teaching of climbing and mountaineering in Britain.

The professional body of certificate holders is The Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI).
